Richard Price, our Web Developer, celebrates 10 years at OGL.
A huge congratulations to Richard Price who is the latest member of staff to join the Long Service Club having recently celebrated his 10th anniversary at OGL. Richard was presented with an Amazon eVoucher and engraved glass trophy from Neil Morris on behalf of all the Directors.
Richard looks back on the last 10 years:
"When I joined the company, I was brought in to work on a web development framework which was new to the company, so for a few years I was exclusively working on that until sales growth of our original web system prompted my customer project list to grow across both platforms. I have since gotten stuck into the enhancement of both by working closely with our customers' feedback during projects, ensuring both solutions continue to move forward alongside our customers' growth.
"I feel quite lucky in my role as it is a design/creative based one and I get the opportunity to try out new design trends and implement innovative functionality to a customer's website. I am part of a small team that support each other and regularly discuss ways in which we can increase our efficiency and better our performance.
"I get to sit face to face with some very interesting and funny customers during project meetings where all kinds of funny stories come out (not suited for public knowledge!) and I feel like my role provides the right mix of pressure, responsibility, and customer appreciation.
"Over the years, where my team has changed dramatically, I have learned that to ensure a fulfilling working life it is more beneficial to push for change rather than to walk away. Your job is what you make it and it is very rare to walk into a perfect job. I don't believe in perfect jobs, but I do believe in perfect opportunities; they are always within reach."
Ian Boyle, Richard's manager, congratulates him on his 10 years at OGL:
"Rich joined the WebServices Department back in February 2011 and has been a key member of the team ever since.
"He started working on building Magento 1 websites before moving onto OGL's own eShop website platform (now known as eShop1). Over the years, he has progressed onto developing responsive versions of eShop1 (eShop2) before more recently moving to Magento 2 website development (eShop3 - we are not very inventive with our product names!).
"In the last 10 years, Rich has successfully delivered well over 100 projects and has also developed his own applications to improve processes within the team. More recently, he is working on an "eShop Templater", created to be used with our eShop Design template sales. This will enable customers to select the design template they require for their website and effectively 'build' their website design themselves.
"In terms of website design, no-one can skin a website quicker than Mr Price! :-) The designs he produces are very artistic and creative which have led to the creation of some of our finest looking websites.
"Outside of OGL, Rich is an avid Manchester United fan and has even been a stand-up comedian! Rich is an asset to the team who always has a smile on his face. Here's to the next 10 years!"
